Timbre Woods – Wild Autumn Edits

Yesterday saw the second release from Baltimore-based label Better on Foot. Wild Autumn Edits, a collection of remixes of indie duo Timbre Woods, features rerubs by Lomez, Andrew Grant, Montauke and Dim Neon Sum. Grab the release on Beatport and preview two of the tracks below.

We had a chance to catch up with Better on Foot label head Lomez about the release as well as what’s next for himself, his Dim Neon Sum project and the label.

Tell us a bit about how the release came about. How did you link up with Timbre Woods? What about the group stood out to you?

Timbre Woods is a project from William Hicks and Brian Fleming. Hicks produces and Brian does vocals and guitar. They’d been working together for at least a year at a very steady pace, one day a week as their schedules permitted. Brian lives in Pennsylvania, so he’d come down to Baltimore and work with Hicks, who happens to be one of my closest friends. I really liked the vibe of the tracks and the songwriting as well, so it was bound to end up in my arrangement window.

And we’re to expect a full length album from them? Will that be on Better on Foot as well?

Yes, they are to release a full length album in 2013 – but not on Better on Foot. One of my ideas behind putting this release out was to bring exposure to the group. Their album is still in the final production stage. They plan to shop the LP to indie labels with better distribution. Knowing that Better on Foot is primarily an underground label for DJs, they were nice enough to let me license the originals for remixes before the album was even finished. It’s sort of a prequel.

After this, what else is in the pipeline for the label? And yourself, both as Lomez and Dim Neon Sum?

The label will be releasing music from more Baltimore artists. Two of our resident DJs, Prab K and A’phreaq, will be included an upcoming sampler this winter. I’m also finishing another project with Phillip Charles for the label.

Lots of Lomez material about to come out on other labels as well. An original on a sampler from Supplement Facts, an EP for System of Survivals label Fventi, a single for Hypercolour with an Alex Jones remix, an EP for Surface with Nitin remixes, a vocal collaboration with DC’s own Symbol for Fresh Meat is one I’m particularly excited about, this is the label run by Nathan Drew Larsen and Mazi. Oh, and a 9 track collection of afterhours themed tracks that I produced for the Seattle-based Viva Recordings is being released in January, after a brief postpone.
