Ahead of their SWING night at Backbar this Friday, Jay Simon (of Wild Oats and Must Have Records) and Maxmillion Dunbar (of Future Times) put together an exclusive back-to-back mix for us.
Here’s what Jay had to say about the mix:
“Was completely spontaneous, I just brought some records and CDs over the Future Times HQ in Silver Spring and we got down to business. I’m not really into planning live mixes, might as well just put in a CD haha! But yeah, it was the first time we did any sort of mix together, we talk about records often, and I’m always shooting him stuff, and he’s shooting me stuff, so it felt like a natural fit.”

We got the chance to ask Jay a couple of questions about what he has coming up….
What you have going on at the moment – releases, special gigs, etc.?
The Saine release on Must Have Records should finally be out on wax soon, so definitely looking forward to that. It’s the very first release on my own label and I’ve been really happy to hear a lot of the responses. Early next year I have a record coming on a new label out of Glasgow, Scotland called Ander-Traxx with some remixes from some other Scottish producers, and more shit next year on Wild Oats as well. We’re working on doing a special party featuring Kyle Hall & Beautiful Swimmers next month. Fingers crossed that goes down.
So how did you and Kyle Hall end up linking up? Are you working on anything new for Wild Oats?
I used to talk to him on Facebook a lot about music, since we were both into a lot of the same tunes, and then he played in DC 2 years ago and I got to meet him. From there we just stayed in touch, and he happened to like some of the stuff I was working on. 2012 is gonna be a good year…keep ya ears open and your mind right!
