Preview | Bjarki at Ten Tigers Parlour

U Street Music Hall’s recent foray into booking shows at the wonderfully intimate Ten Tigers Parlour has thus far seen successful nights with Dennis Ferrer, Ben UFO, Jeremy Olander, and this run of talent continues Saturday with the Washington, DC debut of Icelandic techno giant, Bjarki. Born Bjarki Runar Sigurdarson, the DJ/Producer has been quite prolific in the last 18 months, releasing 3 full-length LPs on Nina Kraviz’ label, трип (Trip), playing club and festival gigs worldwide, and founding his own label, bbbbbb, in 2017 to highlight electronic sounds from his native Iceland.

Bjarki’s tunes run the gamut from mutant techno, jungle, and breakbeats to ambient and IDM-influenced tracks. In addition to his output for Trip and bbbbbb, his sounds can be heard through a number of DJ mixes which are a treasure trove of unreleased gems that according to the artist will likely never be released. His DJ sets take the listener on a journey as they ebb, flow, and pulsate all while riding a low-end wave that shakes and quakes any sound system they course through.

Ten Tigers is the perfect locale for such a night as the intimate dance floor and low capacity room lend themselves to experimentation from the performer leading to unforgettable nights of dancing and raving. It would be remiss to not mention the perfectly tuned Martin Audio system that the parlour is outfitted with. It is one of the most pristine setups in the city, if not the entire east coast.

Get your tickets now as this one is going to be unforgettable. Tickets are $15 in advance online or $20 at the door if any remain. Listen to Bjarki’s newest single, “Soda Sugarlicious” below.
