FEATURE | Proc Fiskal – “Milk and Biscuits feat. Polonis”

Today’s newest grime goodness comes to you in the form of “Milk and Biscuits” via Joe Powers aka Proc Fiskal, the newest Hyperdub Records signee, hailing from Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. This is one of the cuts off his debut EP, The Highland Mob, out yesterday digitally and on vinyl, and is an absolute belter. The track starts off with a spoken word sample asking us if we would like some “milk and biscuits” before kicking into a 160bpm jam featuring keys that sound like the dungeon music from The Legend of Zelda played with the turbo setting on. Punchy drums and a huge rolling bass line kick in shortly after that get both your feet and head moving. This track is also a collaboration with Glasgow-based producer, Polonis, and the only feature on the EP.

“Milk and Biscuits” stands out among other futuristic grime productions for its tight execution and cleverly placed samples, and is likely the rowdiest beat out of the 7 tracks that compose The Highland Mob. Hyperdub’s boss, Kode9, has a keen ear for up and coming producers who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of instrumental grime music, as represented by the recent signing of Endgame and now Proc Fiskal. I look forward to hearing more from this talented new producer. You can purchase The Highland Mob from BandCamp.
