Feature | FKJ – “Skyline”

FKJ ends a North American Tour promoting his debut album French Kiwi Juice After performing at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado last weekend. This album is a wonderful display of FKJ’s range as a songwriter and producer. It showcases songs like the upbeat single Go Back Home and the jazz odyssey that is Canggu. Sitting at track number two is a song that puts all of FKJ’s abilities on display: Skyline. A combination of skillful synthesizer play and rich soulful vocals, Skyline is delightfully gentle R&B track that makes for great headphone music. The intro features a smooth and centered keyboard accompanied by spacious percussion. Building on this foundation, FKJ drops a uniquely simple drum beat that leaves room for his vocals to carry us for the rest of the journey. He brings it home with a playful keyboard solo that dances all the way to the last note.

FKJ is a unique talent because he has perfected his career defining sound by the age of 23. Many bloggers have wondered what the next generation of French producers would deliver after their predecessors practically invented electronic dance music. I suggest keeping up with artists like FKJ who build on those before him to create something entirely new.
