Jubilee Mo is one of my favorite DC DJs. His sets and original productions are steady, deep and sexy. He’ll be at U Street Music Hall this Friday with Bruno Pronsanto and Blisspop’s own Lxsx Frxnk, who will be setting the mood with a frothy deep/minimal opening set, blindfolded, with hands tied behind her back, in a panther costume. Or so I’m told. I sat down with Jubilee to talk
This Saturday, our friend Nick Catchdubs joins me and Chris Nitti at BLISS. Nick is a phenomenal DJ and one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet. His Fool’s Gold Records with A-Trak is responsible for some of the biggest dance tunes around these days. I chatted with Nick about his stellar mixtapes and what got him tied up in the DJ biz in the first place. Don’t miss Nick
Really excited I was able to catch up with Brooklyn, NY-based turntablist/producer Cody Murray (aka Codes) this week. Ever since I saw @StretchArmy mention his name on twitter a few months ago, I haven’t been able to get enough of his Codes House EP (released back in April via Slow Roast Records – see tracks “Ready Aim Fire” & “Guzzlin Champagne”) and his latest disco/house/bass Codes Mix done for Treasure
Ahead of his upcoming appearance alongside Sammy Slice at Bliss this Saturday, we had the pleasure of talking to Dave P, one of the main personalities behind the legendary Making Time and FIXED parties, globetrotting DJ, producer, radio jock, and all around rad dude. Click here for a recording of Dave’s most recent Making Time RADio show, mixed live on 88.5 XPN in Philadelphia (his next show is July 1).
1. You started DJing at raves when you were 13 years old — How did you get connected into that scene at such a young age? What styles of music did you spin? Danny Daze – I got into that scene through friends who used to break dance with me. They were usually all age events so it took me maybe 3 parties to get used to the glow sticks
