Blisspop Disco Fest — Artist Interview | Crush Club

Having worked together as part of electronic pop group Avan Lava, singer TC Milan and producer/multi-instrumentalist Le Chev decided to explore a more disco-influenced side to their music with their duo, Crush Club. We got to catch up with them to find out more about their influences, tour with SOFI TUKKER and what is in store next.

Tell us a little bit about how Crush Club came together.

Crush Club was sort of a reset button for us. We’d started a band called AVAN LAVA back in 2010 that sort of ran its course, and we felt that it was time to make some funky, disco bangers under a new alias. Crush Club is all about letting go and having the best time on the dance floor.

Who are some of your musical inspirations? Are there any artists you hope to collaborate with one day?

Big inspirations include Zapp and Roger, Chic, Prince, The Chemical Brothers.. too many to name really. We’re making more house tracks at the moment, and we’d would love to collaborate with Purple Disco Machine again. Some other people we’d love to get in a studio with are Adam Port, Solomun, Koze, Nile Rogers, Crystal Waters, Honey Dijon… we love Honey Dijon so much! It’s been cool to see her rise to the top.

You recently finished a tour with SOFI TUKKER. Tell us about that experience.

Sophie and Tucker are two of the most inspirational people we’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. They bring so much love to the stage and tour environment. They also create such strong bonds with artists they enjoy being around. We’ve been really lucky to be a part of so many of their Animal Talk parties, also run by one of our besties, LP Giobbi. It’s a love fest.

What excites you the most about performing at the Blisspop Disco Fest?

Oh wow, well the artist line-up is epic! We’re excited to share a stage with so many people we love – Cerrone, The Black Madonna, Chromeo… it’s gonna be a blast. And DC always surprises us with its crazy, hype energy. We’re also excited to play LIVE in a mostly DJ style festival.

What does the word disco mean to you?

Disco means leaving all the bullshit at the door – giving into the repetition – being kind to everyone. Disco is hopefully what soundtracks heaven.

What’s next for Crush Club in terms of releases and tours?

We have two releases coming up on labels we really respect. We can’t share all the details yet, but one is a collab with LP Giobbi and the other features NickiBtheVagabond – she’ll actually be performing with us live at Blisspop Disco Fest! She’s one of the best singers in the world. We’re always writing so expect a bunch more music in 2020. See you Friday!

Crush Club will be performing at the Blisspop Disco Fest on Friday, September 28 at U Street Music Hall, appearing alongside Crazy P, Session Victim, Le Youth, Gilligan Moss, Eau Claire, and Fady D B2B Noce. Tickets for this show can be purchased here.
