Video: Cherokee – Take Care Of You

Brand new French electronic duo Cherokee is definitely one group to watch closely this year. Members Terence N’Guyen and Dorian Miche have been releasing a consistent set of slow, soulful disco over just the past 2 months since the group’s existence. Each of their four tracks was released right in the heart of summer for a reason as they bring beachy dance vibes throughout. French electronic label, Shiny Disco Club caught these guys early and have been in support for their recent tracks but no further announcements have been made yet.

Just this past month, the duo collaborated with California-based photographer, videographer, and ambient instrumentalist Thomas Marin to produce a video for their newest track “Take Care Of You.” To be honest, the video is a complete tease. It wonders alongside beautiful young women as you travel through open beaches and forests in rhythm to the track’s sexy and funky vibes. Brainwashed into a dream, indeed.

Another track of theirs that I’ve been stuck on is “Sable Doux” (English: “Soft sand”), which might actually be a hyped up rework of Passage’s ambient track that came out in 2010, but it’s satisfying either way.

Friendly Fires – Hawaiian Air (TEED Remix)

Despite electronic enthusiast Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) currently touring the world for his latest EP Prehistory, he has still managed to be productive on the other side of the globe.  As of last Thursday, his remix of Friendly Fires’ “Hawaiian Air” is up for listen and sale on iTunes.  The remix definitely compliments its name with its drums and strides of synth while echoing the original vocals to create a dream-like tropical dance atmosphere.

Also in TEED’s recent pipeline is the video for his latest single “Trouble”.  The reason why TEED has been one of my favorite artists for the past year is not only because of his wonderful music but the fact that he always has great dinosaur hats – hands down, the best – which you’ll see in this video and other videos throughout his YouTube.

Mighty Mouse – Between The Pavement And The Stars

It’s no secret that I’m a huge believer in the London Duo that goes by the moniker Mighty Mouse. Matthew and Colin started making remixes in November 2008 and haven’t looked back since. A spontaneous, no-holds-barred approach has found them remixing/editing the likes of Beyonce, Gorillaz, Abba, and Robbie Williams. Their ability to drop monthly mixes, remixes and originals while holding down steady dates throughout London has been impressive to say the least. They also have one of the better websites that I’ve come across which includes tons of free tracks and mixes to download —> check it out HERE.

The duo has decided to take their act live and the band’s first single was just released yesterday. They have been kind enough to offer a free download which you can grab HERE. Lots of spacey gadgets mixed with disco melodies has been their DJ set trademark but the addition of female vocalist Natalie Lewis should allow for greater experimentation with an album on the way. Check out the official video from their first single below.

Esperanza – Sirena

Esperanza

A new group has joined the Gomma family and they go by the name Esperanza. The Italian trio just released their first EP, Sirena and a full album will be coming later this year.

The eclectic skills of each member creates a unique sound when their forces are combined. Carlo has produced under the name Cecile with remixes for Munk and Headman on the Gomma label. Matteo is a bassplayer who brings a funky disco element to the front and Sergio has been producing indie pop records in Italy. Put it all together and you have a melodic journey full of uplifting, soothing beats…give it a listen below.

Blondes – fresh from a well-received performance at Space, Ibiza – are making a stop in D.C. tonight with one of France’s foremost electronic musicians, Joakim, and Fixed resident DJs, Dave P & JDH.

The Blondes’ signature sound — pulsating, layered, melodic electronics matched with ritualistic drum patterns — has landed them remixing spots for the likes of Health, John Talbot and Rihanna, in addition to an EP released on Merok and multiple 12″s released via Rvng Intl.

Check out a short clip of Blondes’ recent performance at Space, Ibiza below (also an interview with Earl Gateshead of Trojan Sound System, explaining the communicative benefits of bands performing in clubs) — and see them live at U Street Music Hall! Doors open at 9:00 p.m., entry is $8, ages 18+
