Funkyjaws

Edits and re-works of classic disco and soul tracks are popping up all over the web in 2012 and one person we urge you to look out for is a producer from Belarus known as Funkyjaws. He holds down a low key profile (doesn’t own a personal Facebook account and his tweets are private) but don’t let that sway you from tapping into his recent edit collection. The man flat out gets the concept of adding flavor to tracks without overpowering them or taking away their identity. Just look at what he did with this soulful, funked-out Barry White classic:

Barry White – Playing Your Game, Baby (Funkyjaws Re-work)

Funkyjaws recently jumped into some original production with the release of his Introduction LP on Bandcamp. The ten track journey takes us through a fluid mixture of jazz, soul and hip-hop. It’s also available for free download. Check it out below…

With warm weather on the horizon, German DJ/Producer Tim Bernhardt aka Satin Jackets hands us his silky smooth remix of the track “Downtown” on Britain’s own Pole Position Recordings. A boogie bass line blended nicely with some dreamy synths leaves this blogger with a smile on his face. Plenty more available from SJ on SoundCloud but first check out this heavenly track and then grab it on Juno.

Did I mention smooth? Yeah, you should get lost in this one as well…

Mario Basanov – We Are Child Of Love

Lithuanian DJ/Producer Mario Basanov, aka Mr. Smooth, delivers yet again with his newest EP on the UK label NeedWant. Bordering on the verge of disco and deep house, the track is flat out sexy. Sensual vocals and a passively fierce bass line complement each other beautifully as Basanov leads us through a journey of melodic satisfaction.

Grab the vinyl here and then take a scenic adventure through the homemade music video.

Also be sure to check out this lovely deep house remix from Damien Roussel & Raphael Cesario, the Parisian duo known as The Mekanism.

Up Close And Personal With Cassian

The Aussie invasion continues as Blisspop highlights another young, promising DJ/producer in the Nu Disco scene.  He goes by the name Cassian and his dedication to crossing over genres through musical exploration is landing him increased exposure worldwide. You should really go check out his sounds to fully grasp what we’re talking about.

Cassian has hit the ground running in 2012 with appearances at The Big Day Out Festival (Australia’s iconic touring music festival) and most recently alongside John Digweed. He’ll head down to WMC in March to join forces with Gigamesh and Fred Falke but not before meeting up with one of our favorites, Aeroplane, to help finish off his tour. Be sure to check them both out this Saturday at U Street Music Hall. More info can be found here while tickets can be purchased over at Ticketfly.

Between his hectic schedule, we were fortunate enough to pull him aside and pick his brain on Aussie influences, joining a Country Club, and getting deep.
