Director Bahman Ghobadi (A Time for Drunken Horses, Turtles can Fly), sheds lights on the Iran’s repressed underground music scene in his latest film No One Knows About Persian Cats (winner of the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the Cannes film festival). Both Hypernova and Yellow Dogs, two of the film’s featured bands, will be performing live this Friday at U Street Music Hall.
Dear friends,
BLISS last month and the semi-annual Blisspop DC family rager last week were amazing! Thanks to everyone who joined us at the new U Street Music Hall for bass, hands in the air and good times.
We’re back this Saturday for more!
This month, our partner Brian Billion joins resident DJ Will Eastman. The duo are responsible for No Scrubs: 90’s Dance Party which sold out the 9:30 Club in February.

“Accept The New”, the first track off of Theophilus London’s highly anticipated mixtape I Want You, is a straight baby makin’ jam. And if you don’t believe me, please watch the accompanying video featuring baller space bikes and glowing sea jellies (Definition of sexy).

Candyman, These Are Powers‘ latest EP, is loud, raw, and utterly perfect. From start to finish, the Brooklyn trio exudes a pure energy that lands somewhere between electro-pop, hardcore, and indie-rock. Topping lists at last month’s SXSW, I am more than excited to catch these guys live.

The Blisspop DC family rager returns this Saturday, April 17th at the new U Street Music Hall!
This party is a celebration of new, forward-looking dance music featuring some of the names involved in putting DC on the new EDM map in 2010. Tittsworth and Will Eastman just received noteworthy nods from none other than Fatboy Slim in his March Beatport Top 10 chart. Since their last Blisspop appearance, Nadastrom once again topped the Beatport best sellers chart with their Saved ep, and continue to dominate the remix game. Dmerit’s Stuck On You ep and upcoming ep demos have received nods from Scottie B and countless DJ heads in the know.
