All Things Go: Hit Parade Part 1 & 2

Part 1

Cults – “Go Outside”

These guys are just starting to get some blog lovin’, and after listening to “Go Outside” it’s pretty clear the attention is deserved. Haunting, effortless, yet catchy, in the vein of Arcade Fire.

Two Door Cinema Club – “What You Know”

This song makes me do that goofy-white-guy-playing-drums-on-his-thighs-or-belly move, but I do so unashamedly.

Tanlines – “Real Life”

A grandiose cacophony of layered instrumentals. Yeah, I used a thesaurus.

Coeur De Pirate – “Printemps”

I love this short and sweet ballad despite not understanding a word of what she’s saying. In fact, I loved it enough that I put it on the latest edition of our Valentine’s Day Mixtape.

The Temper Trap – “Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix)”

I heard this dropped in multiple clubs in Acapulco last week on my Spring Break, and it absolutely SLAYED the crowd. Rightfully so.

Part 2

Fang Island – “Daisy”

Apparently Fang Island was quite the buzz at this year’s SXSW festival.  Rightfully so.  Their latest self-titled album is more than solid and “Daisy” is a straight kick in the balls.

Foals – “Spanish Sahara”

I think most people did a double take the first time they heard this song.  It’s more than a bit different from their dancier tunes, but this epic track is probably my favorite Foals song yet.

Minus the Bear – “Into the Mirror”

Everything Minus the Bear touches is gold.  I am so god damn excited for their next album, and you should be too.  Thankfully, we don’t have to wait later than May.  In the meantime, wet your whistle with this baby-making jam.

Good Old War – “Texas Blues”

Crazy what three guys can do when armed with not much more than some acoustic guitars.  With “Texas Blues” Good Old War puts their magical pop touch on, well, the blues.  Their three-part harmonies make me melt inside.

Gorillaz – “Stylo”

It ain’t no “Clint Eastwood” or “Feel Good Inc.”, but it works.  I’ve come to like “Stylo” and the rest of Plastic Beach more and more with each listen.  Definitely one of those albums that works best when listened to in its entirety.

BLISS Sat, March 27 at U STREET MUSIC HALL!

Dear friends,

Join us for BLISS this month at our new home, U Street Music Hall!

U Street Music Hall was built from the ground up to host a party like BLISS. It’s a no-attitude basement music venue at 12th & U with the feel of a laidback rock club, cheap drinks and a fantastic, 40,000 watt sound system. (One word… BASS.) We’ll have more space to dance and there’s a 60’ wooden, cork-padded dance floor! Invite all your peeps. Looking forward to seeing you at our first BLISS in the new space, this Saturday March 27th, and 4th Saturdays thereafter.

Hope to see you there!

Will

Guest DJ: Harry Hotter (AVLG, TV Party)

Likely best known for rocking hip-hop parties at big clubs, Harry Hotter has recently been letting his inner music nerd shine through at events like the Coolout rooftop parties and, most recently, his TV Party events, where you may hear him drop any manner of funky music under the sun. Whether he’s rocking breaks and grooves or letting out his inner Raver, he always keeps the party people moving.

Amtrak

Kentucky’s Amtrak, otherwise known as the John Wall of bass (not really), recently released a high quality dub-step remix of Amanda Bank’s “Might Like You Better”.  I’ve never claimed to be a connoisseur of dub-step, but the 1:50 mark of this track is a concentrated dose of ecstasy.

Under The Sheets (Chiddy Bang Remix)

After an insanely hectic week, I spent a few hours digging through my inbox and one track that immediately jumped out was Chiddy Bang’s remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Under The Sheets”. My good bro Derek over at Neon Gold Records recommended it to me a few weeks ago, and little did I know I was sitting on a gold mine. If this track is any indication of what is to come, Chiddy Bang’s upcoming tape Air Swell will be absolutely enormous.

U Street Music Hall: Aeroplane Preview

DC STAND UP, U Street Music Hall has arrived. Tonight, Belgian beat-masters Aeroplane will christen the decks for an anticipated sold out crowd at the venue’s official opening. The dance floor is fresh, the drinks are cheap, and the sound system is bangin’. To put it this way, it’s only 11:30am and I’m all kinds of excited. What more can you ask for?

A new home for BLISS!

Dear friends,

We’re thrilled to announce some very exciting news. As many of you already know, for the past year I’ve been working on creating a brand new music venue created to host the kind of parties I’ve been throwing for the past decade. U Street Music Hall is set to open March 17th and I’m proud to announce it will be the new home for BLISS Dance Party.

U Street Music Hall is a no-attitude basement music venue at 12th & U with the feel of a laid back rock club, cheap drinks and a fantastic sound system. Really, you just have to hear it. There’s no bottle service, no velvet rope and no bullshit. The focus is entirely on the music, and it’s been built from the ground up to be a world class venue hosting both DJs and live acts.

For some time now, lines have been building up at BLISS, and more often than not we’ve had to hold the door before midnight. At U Street Music Hall, we’ll have plenty of space and a 60 foot long wooden dance floor to go in as much as we want. We’re looking forward to seeing you at our first BLISS in the new space, March 27th, and 4th Saturdays thereafter. In the meantime, please follow U Street Music Hall on Twitter or become a fan of U Street Music Hall on Facebook.

See y’all at there!

Will

Kavinsky: Nightcall

Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo produced it, SebastiAN mixed it, and Lovefoxx from CSS topped it off with stellar vocals. Kavinsky’s Nightcall, a collaborative effort deemed by AudioPorn Central as a “French Electro Dream Team”, is the real mothafuckin’ deal. And if that doesn’t get you all hot’n'bothered, then rock out to the Breakbot remix as well.

Codeine Velvet Club

Codeine Velvet Club, a 60’s inspired rock outfit comprised of Jon Lawler (The Fratellis) and singer/songwriter Lou Hickey, will release their self-titled debut album April 6th on Dangerbird records. Catch them at SXSW later this month.
